I have naturally brown hair (medium) and I dyed it a reddy brown colour by loreal. I loved it but now its faded I want it back to a nice light brown colour. I brought a home dye but it didnt work and stayed the same colour. I re-read the box and it said it woudlnt cover hair with red colour. The only way to do it at home is to buy a dark brown which is too harsh for my pale complexion.
Therefore, will a hairdresser be able to give me back my lighter brown hair with some highlights or will I still have to go dark?

a hair dresser can get your hair back to light brown. they might strip your hair first to get rid of all the colour but they will def. be able to get it to the colour you want.

yes a hairdresser can i had black hair and went to blonde. It takes bleach and lots of time and patience, your hair will become very dry so you will need to use a treatment conditioner each week.

Only thing you could do at home would be to get a hair lightener from your pharmacy, put that on and it should lighten the hair enough for you to put a lighter brown colour on it. Other than that go to the hairdressers, but try lightening it first and see how it goes.

YES, THEY CAN LIFT YOUR HAIR TO A LIGHTER COLOUR BUT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO LIFT ALL OF THE RED TONE OUT SO MAY NEED A LOT OF WORK PLEASE GIVE HAIRDRESSER LOTS OF INFO ABOUT PREVIOUS TREATMENTS TAKEN PLACE ON YOUR HAIR SUCH AS PREVIOUS HIGHLIGHTS ETC, THEY WILL WANT TO KNOW WHAT COULD BE UNDERNEATH ALL THAT COLOUR!!!!

The right way to do what you wanted to do is to use a filler, or a color somewhere in between your natural color, and the one you're dying. Be very careful if you try to fix it yourself, because you could hurt your hair.

I have my hair with a red dye over it - Red passion by Loreal.
Red is the hardest coloyr to remove from your hair - do not attempt to do it yoursel or you'll just wreck it even more.
The hairdresser will charge you a bloody fortune to strip your hair but it is the safest way to get it done!!!
Good luck - kid x

you could try using an ash brown colour to try to tone down some of the red tone first before you try to lift it out as it may need bleaching and this can ruin your hair if not done properly. if this fails and you are really unhappy go to a good salon and ask if they use a product called magma . it can lift and tone your hair at the same time without having to use bleach.

Red is a very hard colour to remove from the hair. So you might have to have colour correction, the way to cancel out red is green, but dont worry your hair wont end up green! lol Of course the hairdresser will beable to fix it but after the correction (if thats what they deside to do) they would have to lift the hair a couple of shades lighter, because you cant lighten the hair with a tint. With a colour tint you can only darken. I would go to a good hairdressers and have a consultation and your hair will b fixed in no time! Good Luck!

hi what i have done in the past its not a good idea to strip your hair at the hairdressers as this will dry out your hair , wash your hair in any dandruff shampoo head and shoulders is a good one, this will help fade your colour, then you need to buy a hair colour like ash brown as you can get lots of diffrent shades of ash brown light medium dark ect this will counter act the redness in your hair, i have reddy brown hair and to be honest i dont like the red in my hair so i always go for an ash brown shade,
