I want to dye my hair but I have highlights?

I currently have goldish-brown hair with blonde highlights that were done professionally by the hairdresser. I want to temporarily dye it with Loreal Color Pulse (the 8-10 washes stuff) to a darker brown. Can I do this without damaging the highlights or dying them a funny colour? Thank you!

You can color over highlights, actually it can make your hair appear healthy and shiny if the right products are used.

If you go to a salon I suggest them using a demi permanent color.

If you are doing it at home I think the 8-10 wash is a good idea. You just want to make sure the shade you pick is that of a warmer tone, like golden, or even something with a hint of red. If you use something that is brown with out the warmer tone your hair can turn gray in color towords the ends.

I am not sure where you are from, but if $$$ is an issue I would look for a beauty school close to you. They are usually cheaper than most salons and sometimes know a little more about what they are doing. Plus there are experienced hair stylist whom are the instructors watching over them.

Even though the box says 8-10 washes, it still is going to be in there after the 8-10 washes, due to the fact that the color will probably stain the highlights and base color. And depending on what kind of dark brown (ash, something with red, etc) it could end up turning the highlights an ashy color or stain a redish or orange color. I would suggest going back to your hair stylist for a new look if thats what you are looking for.

but since your coloring it dark brown you'll prolly be able to see your highlights a little bit, but not a whole lot.

why don't you use that temporary color the girls use for clubbing you can wash it out when you feel like you need a new look.
