I too have thick curly hair, that is rather poofy. I use Garnier Fructis, and I use a CHI straightner to help smooth it out and make it shiny and silky!

I have hair that matches the description of yours. I recommend these:

Herbal Essences Drama Clean Shampoo or Aussie Sydney Smooth with

Aussie Moist Conditioner or Garnier Fructis Sleek and Smooth

Followup with the leave in John Freida Spray. A john freida smoothing shampoo would also be a good choice, but pricier than the others

I find Dove and Loreal to be drying and have not tried Tresemme or Sunsilk

Try makeupalley.com for reviews to make your decision. If you really can't decide, narrow it down to 2 shampoos and conditioners each, buy them, and just try out different combinations or routines until you find one that works.

Pantene Pro V is the ONLY drugstore brand that is the best for any type of hair from walmart....if you want smooth, silky and shiny hair, you need to invest in products that do NOT exist in Walmart.

You need to invest at least a good $100 or more in a great flat iron, $50 should be the minumum if you can't go over $100. Only because ceramic plated irons are the best in hair protection while you are flat ironing your hair. Also, a hair serum that will protect your hair while you are straightening your hair. Like KMS Silker Therapy Plus or BioSilk Silk Therapy, at least $15-20+
